Avoiding job scams

We highly encourage you to do a little research before you apply for a job to determine if the job is legitimate before sending any personal information, or even your resume. Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking for a job on Adjeem;

If it looks too good to be true – it probably is.

•    Avoid listings that guarantee you wealth, financial success, or promise you will get rich fast. Stay clear of listings that offer you high income for part-time hours. They will do none of the above.

•    Be extremely wary of any company that wants to send you a cheque in the mail, either before or after you have done work for them, and then asks you to wire part of the money. This is a scam.

Do your homework.

•    Has the company provided their name? If not, then we encourage you to ask for it before forwarding ANY personal information to the company.

•    Does the company have a website? If so, make it sure how professional is it? Is there contact or location information? Is there career information posted? If the company does not have a website or if it doesn’t fit with how the company is described in the ad- this should be a red flag.

•    How much do you know about the job from their listing? Do you know what you’ll be doing or how much you’ll be paid? Is it hourly or commission based? These are all fair questions to ask before providing personal information.

It’s in the details.

•    Are they asking for money up front? Legitimate employers don’t charge to hire you. Don’t send money for work at home directories, advice on getting hired, company information, uniforms or for anything else related to a job.

Remember:
Any reputable company will welcome questions from possible employees and understand a desire for personal safety. If they refuse to give you this information, they are likely not worth your time.
